Nigeria’s Communication Commission has advice for consumers
14 October 2014

Nigeria’s telecommunications industry regulator, The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) will support consumers who want to legally challenge any telecommunications service provider over poor service.

In an interview with The Vanguard, Commission spokesperson Reuben Muoka confirmed this position and added that the NCC Act did not allow the Body to prosecute service providers based on individual complainants, but that it had established a Consumer Protection Department to assist customers.

“The act does not prohibit anybody from prosecuting an operator who fails to render good services as required, you can sanction poor service operators or port to another network,” Muoka is quoted as saying.

Authorities and the NCC have issued strong warnings to operators in the sector, with the Minister of Communication Technology, Omobola Johnson joining NCC and Consumer Protection Council representatives in threatening sanctions in 2013.
